Brad Abbott’s journey with Daifuku Intralogistics America is a testament to how curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn can transform an internship into a meaningful career-building experience. From his first summer as an SPL Content Analyst Intern in 2025 to his return for a second internship, Brad has steadily expanded his technical expertise, business understanding, and professional confidence.
Brad began his first internship in the summer of 2025, stepping into the role of SPL Content Analyst Intern. At the time, he was introduced to the complex and detail-driven world of spare parts logistics. His primary responsibilities involved working with external vendors and supporting content analysts in creating accurate spare parts lists for customers. This required identifying, creating, and organizing parts within internal systems while ensuring each project included the correct components for reliable customer delivery.
One of Brad’s standout contributions during his first internship was the development of a customized model to improve part categorization for the Wyn Parts site, now known as MHEparts. By retraining an existing natural language processing model on previously categorized data, Brad was able to significantly improve the accuracy of categorizing new parts for the platform. This project not only demonstrated his technical initiative but also highlighted his ability to apply emerging technologies to real-world business challenges.
Through this experience, Brad gained valuable insights into supply chain logistics, including the interactions between vendors, customers, integrators, and international shipping processes. Equally important was the development of his attention to detail. Working with unfamiliar parts daily required precision and a strong understanding of where each component belonged. On the technical side, his exposure to machine learning marked a major milestone, as it was his first hands-on experience with such tools.
Brad’s positive experience with his team played a significant role in his decision to return for a second internship. He found the workplace to be welcoming and collaborative, with colleagues who encouraged learning and exploration. The flexibility to try new approaches and take on different challenges made the opportunity even more appealing.
In his second internship, Brad’s role expanded considerably. He began working more closely across both the SPL and content teams, taking on a wider range of projects that allowed him to apply both his academic knowledge and the skills he had developed during his first summer. This broader exposure enabled him to contribute more strategically while continuing to grow professionally.
Currently, Brad’s work focuses heavily on market pricing analysis. As project deadlines approach, he evaluates buyout parts to determine whether pricing aligns with market standards and ensures that margins are maintained or improved where possible. In addition, he has been deeply involved in supporting the transition to a new website. His contributions include building out product facets and automating the generation of SEO descriptions and alt text, improving both efficiency and online visibility.
A typical week for Brad involves managing incoming projects, processing purchase orders for spare parts, and reviewing pricing as deadlines near. He also plays an important role in identifying due dates for spare parts lists and tracking any changes to those timelines. This allows him to keep content analysts informed so they can ensure priorities remain aligned and work continues to progress effectively. This workflow requires strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously.
One of the most challenging aspects of Brad’s role is maintaining organization amid a high volume of projects. With multiple parts, vendors, and timelines to manage, the process can quickly become complex. However, this challenge has also been an opportunity for growth, pushing Brad to develop systems and habits that keep his work structured and efficient.
Among his proudest achievements are two projects that significantly improved workflow efficiency. The first is a web application he developed to search for parts in bulk, allowing him to retrieve large amounts of data in seconds rather than minutes. The second is an AI-driven workflow that automates the creation of detailed SEO descriptions from structured part data. What once required a month of manual work can now be completed in a single day, demonstrating the power of combining technical skills with process optimization.
Beyond his technical contributions, Brad values the environment at Daifuku. Working in the Bolingbrook, Illinois office, he particularly enjoys the Innovation Center, where he can observe advanced machinery in action. Seeing these systems operate in real time provides a tangible connection to the work he supports behind the scenes.

Brad’s internships have had a meaningful impact on his academic and career trajectory. As a student at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, he has gained a deeper understanding of business logistics while strengthening his analytical and problem-solving skills. The opportunity to work on projects with real-world impact has reinforced his interest in applying technology to solve complex challenges.
For students considering an internship, Brad strongly recommends Daifuku as a place to begin and grow a career. He emphasizes the engaging culture, the variety of work, and the supportive people who make the experience both enjoyable and rewarding.
Reflecting on the skills needed for success in his role, Brad highlights three key qualities. First, being comfortable with making mistakes is essential, as the learning curve can be steep. Second, taking a steady and methodical approach is critical when managing complex tasks like spare parts lists. Finally, the ability to work outside of structured data is invaluable, as real-world information often requires additional research and problem-solving.
Brad’s path to Daifuku was influenced by his upbringing in a manufacturing-focused environment. With a father who has spent years in materials manufacturing, Brad developed an early interest in the field, which ultimately led him to explore opportunities within the company.
As he prepares to enter his senior year at Tufts University, Brad continues to balance his professional growth with personal interests. He is an avid sports fan, plays college football, and serves as a resident advisor, demonstrating his ability to manage multiple commitments while excelling in each.
